A unique fantasy adventure full of magic, mayhem, murder, and dark humor.

A new, darker age is dawning. The greed of kings has ignited a seemingly endless war. As men fight, the monsters of the untamed wilds are devouring the frontier. Villages are abandoned as fields go fallow. Murderous bandits roam the desolation.

None of that matters to a nameless goblin slave. He just wants to eat as much food as he can shove into his mouth when no one is looking, but fate runs a twisted course, so instead he is whisked away to the far off Iron Teeth Mountains. To stay alive, he will have to evolve into something more than a simple goblin, and carve a bloody path through the forests of the North.

However, first he has to get over his crippling fear of trees, and survive in a place where everything considers him to be the perfect size for a quick snack...

As an avid reader of fantasy, I'm constantly looking for more books that I might like and I often find myself reading books from new or obscure authors if only because most of the more popular books that appeal to me. I've read. I don't expect much from a book when I see it only has 10 or 20 reviews, even if they are positive. But this book surprised me. While there are spelling errors, missing words and grammatical oddities, they are rare and don't detract from the story (probably less than 1 per chapter). If the description of this book appeals to you at all you'll probably enjoy it thoroughly. This is a gem among the trash that populates my reccomendations list these day's. I'll certainly be reading the rest of this series (on the website and when they are released as books) and will be watching to see what else Scott Straughan releases. To the author: I doubt this particular book will ever become a best seller (not without even more editing, at least), but you have all the makings of an amazing author. Keep writing, and I (And many others) will keep reading. If the chapters on your website are half this good, you'll have a new patreon supporter shortly.

A Goblin Tale The Iron Teeth Book 1 eBook Scott Straughan Reviews

Loved this book! Especially the parts written from Blacknail's viewpoint. Witty, humorous, descriptive, unique, (get it?) A really good read. I was reminded of 'The Wizard of Oz.' Blacknail (Dorothy) is transported from sewer (farm) to a strange land, meets Saeter ( Tinman), Geralhd ( Strawman) and Vorscha (Lion), Herad (Bad Witch) and the band of bandits (Flying Monkeys). He meets many strange creatures and has exciting adventures. Oh, forgot about Toto, I mean Bad Dog. The descriptions of horses knocked me out, we feel the same way about our horses at times.
This is a pretty fun book. I actually read the synopsis and was lukewarm, read the kindle free sample to about 50%, and decided I didn't like it because I didn't want such a simpleminded viewpoint. This was a big mistake but I'm glad I made it, as now a year or so later I got desperate and gave it another shot. Without giving anything away it hooks up towards the end of the sample and then really gets going around 25% in.

The other two books are great two. I would say they trend upwards. There is lots of humour, but it doesn't get silly. There is more character depth and development than i expected, and a long way to go in the story arch too. I am very eager for the 4th book.

I can recommend this to anyone. It's single point of view with violence and very limited romance. There is no swearing. Our protagonists viewpoint is very refreshing.
This book has been one of my favorites for a long time already.
It is a dark fantasy from the perspective of a small goblin that fate decides to play some tricks on and his fellow human bandits. There are lots of fun moments as well as good action with even some strange love thrown into the mix, well you cant really call it romance though.
In my opinion the author has done superb job in depicting how a goblin thinks and behaves, and there are visible differences between our goblin characters and human ones, which is good!
I only bought Goblin's Tale after reading other people's reviews. I'm always suspicious when there are a large number of 5-star reviews for something, but some of the thoughtful comments made me take a chance. As one reviewer said, this is a surprise entry in the modern-style Fantasy genre. The character of Blacknail the Goblin is so very well introduced and developed that I wanted to give the author a big high-five. (Although I would also like to caution him on overuse of exclamation points!) The Tale is a little funny, a little dark, in a world that where mutants, monsters and magic are gradually revealed to the audience. Highly recommended story telling!
This is dark fantasy done right. Too often authors who write in this genre go way overboard with their evil protagonists and plotlines but Blacknail is just perfect. He's an amoral little beast but also endearing and fascinating and following his growth and interactions with humans is what really makes this book shine. The world building is also great, with hints of a world in decline with all kinds of monsters and dangers lurking in the wilds. Quite reminiscent of the Witcher-series in that regard. In short this book was well worth the price of admission!
This is the first book in the story of Blacknail the goblin. There are currently almost 3 full books published as web serials online. The main hook in this series is the realistic goblin perspective. It adds so much to how everything happens and makes even the simplest of scenes interesting. Also, the author doesn't overdo it either. I was a bit suspicious when I saw only 5-star reviews but I wasn't disappointed. By the points

-Growth / leveling up of Blacknail
-Fast paced action and lots of violence (gritty)
-Several mysteries surround the story (magic, mutants, mimics, forest people) that get occasional hints and reveals
-Lots of well developed characters
-Nobody is really "good" in this book/series, just very real with lots of grey morals and practicality
-The main character(s) don't always win, and the author handles that well
-I can't really tell why without giving away some key plot elements, but there are a few big things that happen over the course of these 3 books that make the story even better. Some are expected, some are not.

This first book (the only one the author has currently edited and put up for sale on ) is in my opinion the least of the 3, yet still it receives 5 stars. It's a pretty unique story that doesn't let go.

About the only thing I didn't like with this book was the chick with the red hair from the city that loves dangerous things but is totally inept. Didn't seem very necessary and was a real Jar Jar Binks sidekick in my opinion. Also, reading the next two books as web serials is a pain in the rear. Then I also had to go to Patron and pay for the very last 3 chapters. I would rather have just paid $20-$30 up front and been able to download the whole thing onto my kindle and read it with normal convenience. But again, the book was good enough to put up with all that so no regrets.
As an avid reader of fantasy, I'm constantly looking for more books that I might like and I often find myself reading books from new or obscure authors if only because most of the more popular books that appeal to me.
